How to Use Wella Ultimate Repair (Miracle Hair Rescue)

Wella Ultimate Repair has four products and they are not meant to be used in isolation, which is where most people get stuck. The range is designed to work as a system, and the order matters, especially the Miracle Hair Rescue leave-in that gives the line its reputation. Here is how to use each one and where it fits.

What it is built to do

Ultimate Repair targets damaged hair, the kind caused by colouring, heat and daily wear. Damage happens when the internal structure of the hair, held together by keratin and its bonds, starts to break down. The range works on that structure to leave hair stronger, smoother and less prone to snapping. It suits anyone whose hair feels rough, looks frayed at the ends or has been through a lot of colour.

How to use the range in order

  1. Shampoo. Start with the Ultimate Repair shampoo. Massage into wet hair and rinse. It cleans while beginning the repair process.
  2. Conditioner or mask. Follow with the conditioner for everyday use, or swap in the mask once or twice a week for a deeper treatment. Leave the mask for a few minutes before rinsing.
  3. Miracle Hair Rescue. This is the hero step. Apply the leave-in to towel-dried, damp hair, spreading it through the mid-lengths and ends. Do not rinse it out. It keeps working as the hair dries and while you style.

How to use the Miracle Hair Rescue on its own

The leave-in is the product people ask about most, and the key thing is that it goes on damp hair and stays in. Towel-dry until your hair is no longer dripping, work a small amount through the lengths, then comb it to spread it evenly. From there you can air dry or blow dry as usual. It takes under a minute and is the single step that makes the biggest difference to how the hair feels.

Use it every time you wash if your hair is very damaged, or a few times a week to maintain. As with any repair range, the results build over a few weeks rather than a single use. If you want to understand what is causing the damage in the first place, our guide to damaged hair and how to prevent it is worth a read alongside it.

Used as a set, in order, Ultimate Repair does more than any one bottle on its own, and the leave-in is the step not to skip.
